It goes without saying that an album from Yashraj banner comes loaded with expectations. A banner like Yashraj Films stands for standard and they know how to maintain it. With Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan they have come up with light-hearted romantic film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan after the surprise hit Band Baaja Baaraat, last year. Keeping in mind the novelty factor which worked for Band Baaja Baaraat, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has a few names that have never before worked with the banner, and the music composer of the film Sohail Sen is one such talent.
The young guy hasn’t tried to come up with anything offbeat, and delivered an album that drips with lilting melodies and hardly anything jarring to the eardrums.
As the album unfurls, we hear Mere Brother Ki Dulhan title track which starts with a very interesting line “Matrimonial si aankhen sab ko taaken jhaken”, and we are easily swayed into the realm of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. In the song, Imran Khan is searching for a bride not for himself but for his brother. The number is instantly likeable for its free-spirited tone and KK’s voice. The tune is surely engaging, if not awesome. Sohail Sen’s fresh attempt to create a hip, jolly number has delivered a hit score.
The fabulous singer with an amazing voice, Neha Bhasin gets to sing for Katrina Kaif and the song is Dhunki. The robust, quasi-folk number with a rock feel fits Neha perfectly, but does it suit Katrina! There will be doubting Thomases. But just considering the audio, the song is neither ripsnorting not a bummer. We have heard Neha singing ‘Kuch Khas’ in Fashion, and she has done full justice to Dhunki as well. With time the song will gain mileage.
With light, frisky music the song Choomantar begins. The delightful number is addictive; its tune instantly sticks to your mind. Though it’s not easy to sing this song, you would like to hear it again and again just because of its soothing melody. Benny Dayal and new singer Aditi Singh Sharma have done a remarkable job. Choomantar is also very nicely picturised on Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif.
Without him any A-list album sounds incomplete; Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with his extraordinary voice comes with Isq Risk. The fusion number is as good as Rahat’s other songs. The harmonium plays in the background and the super orchestration works in the song’s favour, making it a must-hear track from the Mere Brother Ki Dulhan album.
When it’s about dulhan, it’s also about shaadi and thus band and baja. The wedding season is not on, but the song is full on festive mood. Kick up your heels with Madhubala. The entertaining song is crooned by the hero Ali Zafar, with heavy dose of Bhangra beats, so just let you hair down and go with the music. Heyyyyy..nache re Madhubala!!!!
Next and the last song in the album is Do Dhaari Talwaar, a serious number in the otherwise fun album. The rhythm of the song is dramatic and with the high pitched singing of Shahid Mallya and Shweta Pandit the song builds up intensity. Has to be a situational track!
After listening to the tracks of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, we know that the movie is not a serious affair. The songs are kept simple and melody oozes from every note; there is an element of freshness too as it is composed by Sohail Sen, who has just one movie to his credit. And like the soundtrack of any other Yashraj film, this album too has its moments and some hits like Choomantar, Dhunki, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.
